Mindfulness and Guided Meditation

According to Wikipedia, mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing one’s attention to experiences occurring in the present moment…

“Your mind will answer most questions if you learn to relax and wait for the answer.” – William S. Burroughs

‘Right it’s 12 noon, time to go to the nursery school for a free session of relaxation and meditation. I hope it’s a good one.

Mats… with pillows and blankets. Interesting. I guess I should take off my shoes and get myself on a mat.

LOL! This instructor is funny! Not because she announced to everyone that she’s got a hole on her sock but just because she can put humor on the reality that is a stressful life of being a mum.

This is quite nice, it feels like we are all just a bunch of mommies hanging out, having a wee chat while the instructor drinks her cup of tea… I mean it though, this is quite nice – and she is drinking green tea.

Chocolate? Really? And I thought this was going to be like my stretching video. I’m so happy… Oh. A tiny piece of star-shaped smiley chocolate that I am not allowed to eat yet until she says so. I’m intrigued.

Here we go. Smell the chocolate… yes, I do love the smell of chocolate. I can smell it forever unless I eat it of course.

Finally! Put on top of tongue… but not chew? OK OK, closing my eyes and letting the chocolate melt. Don’t chew, don’t chew. Hmm, I like the texture of chocolate as it melts – soft, silky, smooth – even tastes better.

Yes, my chocolate is all gone and I’m ready to open my eyes.

Mindful eating. I see. That makes sense. Eating slowly and focusing on the food, the sensations in my mouth… did switch my mind off from thinking too much the way it usually does even for that few seconds. Yeah it worked for me.

Are we going to sleep? I could actually. It’s nice and cozy lying down with my head on a pillow and a warm blanket on top of me… Right, relax with arms on the side.

Breathing in… and breathing out…Β Breathing in… and breathing out…

Focus on my feet… yeah they do feel tired, bit achy too. Focus on my knees… not too bad but my legs feel a bit tired. Focus on my hips… back is a bit tensed. Focus on my belly… it definitely feels better when I breathe and let my belly follow. Focus on my shoulders… can definitely feel all the stress I carry there. Relax shoulders. Focus on my jaw… yes, I am actually clenching without realizing. Relax jaw.

Did she have that music with chirping sound playing this whole time?

Body scan. Yes, the same principle as mindful eating. I kind of do something similar when I find it hard to fall asleep. Focusing in the moment or something specific to give my mind a break from running around to different places and situations that are non-existent in that very moment.

This was a really nice activity. I’m glad I came, I needed it. And mindfulness is now a favourite word.

Well, back to mommy duties but first: breathe in calm, breathe out calm; breathe in peace, breathe out peace; breathe in strength, breathe out strength; breathe in harmony, breathe out harmony.’

  1. I wish I’d discovered mindfulness years ago when my children were small – it’s so effective. #thesatsesh

  2. #thesatsesh hmmm i couldn’t stand mindful eating, I’m a shove it in and move on girl – but the body scan is my go to, is this a regular group only id love to know how you progress with it. Well done for going with the flow it sounds like you benefited from it.

  3. I tend to do a body scan whenever I do a reiki self-treatment and it’s just lovely. I love that final paragraph and am going to make an effort to do that every morning and night πŸ™‚ Thanks so much for linking to #AllSortsofBlogs. Do come back and link more this month! Great to have you.

  4. That sounds a good session! I’ve done the body scan before for relaxation when stressed. But mindful eating sounds hard to me.. I inhale my food! Maybe I need to stop and try it!!! #SharingtheBlogLove

  5. I used to do this regularly, particularly the body scan, and with being a mum it’s gone out of the window. And yet I’m more busy than ever – I need to bring it back in! It sounds like a great session for switching off and regaining a bit of calm. Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

  7. I really need to think like this ‘breathe in calm, breathe out calm; breathe in peace, breathe out peace; breathe in strength, breathe out strength; breathe in harmony, breathe out harmony.’ I get so over whelmed at times and this would get me to stop and chill more.
