Post Pregnancy Woes (A Look Back)

About a year ago, only a few weeks postpartum, I had abdominal pains that I thought were just due to severe indigestion. Turned out, they were due to gallstones.

Note: This is not to be taken as a medical advise. If you have any health concerns, always consult with a professional.

According to, symptoms of gallbladder disease are more common in the third trimester or after delivery.

“Umm, I need to go rest for a bit. I think that dinner just gave me indigestion. Maybe it’s too greasy or something.

Aargh! This is so uncomfortable. I don’t understand. My stomach has shrunk already since giving birth. Why am I still having indigestion?

It feels exactly just like that time in the third trimester. It feels like I need to burp but can’t. I feel so bloated and there’s this constant pressure and pain that just keeps on building up with no interval. It’s from the top of my stomach all the way to my back where the bra goes around.

I can’t lie down because it gets worse. Sitting up doesn’t make it go away. I don’t know what to do with myself to get some kind of relief… I’m gonna be sick!

It’s gone. The pressure just disappeared. Like it never happened…

Didn’t get any sleep last night. The same thing like the other day woke me up in the middle of the night. I didn’t get sick but it was so uncomfortable. I didn’t know how to position myself for about four hours. Then all of a sudden, I was fine…

I think I need you to come home. It’s happening again and I’ve been sick twice already and it’s still there. It’s really bad. Mostly on the right side all the way to my back.

Yes, I want to go to the A&E…

Yes, I’ll take the morphine. I just need a rest from this pain…

Wow! Morphine really is some serious stuff. No pain. A bit drowsy but still, no pain.

Blood tests show abnormal liver function test and X-ray is clear. They suspect gallstones based on blood test and symptoms so I have to stay for a scan then go from there. How’s baby? All okay?…

They did an ultrasound this morning and confirmed I have gallstones.”

That was a year ago.

Did you experience something similar after giving birth?

  1. Oh nooo! As if pregnancy and all the post birth shenanigans weren’t bad enough! 🙈 That must have been terrible! I didn’t suffer with gallstones… but I did come out in head to toe hives about a week after giving birth. It went down a treat along with the mastitis, stitches, and sheer exhaustion. I can only imagine how excruciating this must have been. Hugs xx #globalblogging

  2. I had my gallbladder removed after a complete blockage from stones, though it wasn’t from pregnancy. My sister-in-law had hers removed within hours of giving birth because the stones were too large treat. #GlobalBlogging
